A
bit of history on
cashmere wool: Kashmere comes from the Kashmir goats or Chyangras goats
of Tibetan origin which are found in the mountainous regions around the
Himalayas
and Central Asia. The finest Kashmiri wool comes from these goats
because they
live at the altitude of 12000 to 14000 feet where temperatures reach as
low as
-40ºC and because it gets so cold mountains where
these Kashmir goats live the fine down that they produce to keep warm
in
the winter is what is used to make the Cashmere shawl, scarves,
sweaters, coats,
ties, socks, jackets etc. Pashmina is the crème de la crème
of cashmere Pashmina comes from Himalayan region as Pashmina fiber, it
is less than 15-19 microns in thickness making it very soft (whereas
human hair is 75 microns thick).
One goat produces 3to 8 ounces of Pashmina wool per
year. |
